F One-Der Golf Tour - KL F1, April 2007

Day 1 - Friday 6th April 2007
After weeks or even months of preparation, we finally kick off our KL F1 Golf Tour at 8.00am at the Glenmarie Golf and Country Club, Selangor. With most players arriving during the night (although some arrived as early as Monday night!?) and with a few hours sleep, everyone was enthusiatic of the game. We almost started on schedule except for 2 of F One-Der (wonder if they had any sleep?) and 2 guests who were late, caught in traffic, in 8 flites. The game lasted for almost 5 hours.

After showers and a light lunch, yours truly (Rein) officiated the closing of the event. Started off with appreciation to the sponsors, Azmi from SGS, Hj Rosli from Velosi, Rein, Rahman and Saney from Brunei. Appreciation to the organisers for the hard work and time in coordinating this tour - Rahman, Rein, Hj Rosli from F One-Der and Pg AhmadSufrizan from DRM Golf.
This was followed by the presentation of individual trophies for the top 3 winners from each team. For DRM the top 3 winners were scooped by the 3 Kamals ( I should call you the 3 Abdul, sorry), Kamal Bahrom (Gold Tee as he is known by) and his brothers Kamal Badri and Kamal Bahrin ( DRM imported players from M'sia). For F One-Ders, Champion went to Azmi (our M'sian F One-Der), runner up went to Hj Ahmad Rani and third place was Hj Rosli.

The format of the game was Stableford, System 36 modified and the top 10 scores use to determine the winning team. At top 10, the score was tied at 334, at 11 tied at 365, at 12 tied at 395. The 13th player determine the winner and F One-Der won the game by a margin of 5 points. Overall after top 13, the scores were F One-Der - 425, DRM - 420, hence the Champion Trophy was received by yours truly on behalf of the F One-Ders.

All in all, it was a great game and golf outing for DRM and F One-Ders, well done guys and we'll look forward to a hat trick over our DRM colleagues at a return match to be confirmed later.

Day 2 - Saturday 7th April 2007
AFamosa Golf Resort was a 2 hours drive from KL, hence a chance to get a nap for the Bruneian Golfers (F One-Der and DRM), fatigue and sleepless nites (for some!) were getting to the guys which made the annual F1 Friendly Game - Bruneian Vs Malaysian Friends more challenging. We were secretly banking on our young guns from DRM to give us a better chance against the Malaysian - thanks guys for the contributions, eventhough we did not win the new Challenge Trophy.

We reached the Resort at around 12noon, although chaotic at times but the registration and payment for the game was completed well ahead of time. We had a light lunch before the shotgun tee-off at 1.30pm for the 18 flites of 66 players ( 36 Brunei, 30 Malaysia).

On unfamiliar grounds ( quite hard to find flat fairway to land the golf balls), the course was really challenging, nevertheless we manage to complete the game at almost 7pm. Based on a format of Stableford System 36, the final scores of the day were presented at the end of the light dinner. Nonetheless although we gave them a real challenge, the Malaysian team captained by Datuk Jai won the game by 17 points ( Malaysia - 496, Brunei - 479) - we are closing the gap from last year. Appreciation goes to the organisers of the game - Mazalan from Malaysia, Rahman, Rein, Hj Rosli and Pg AhmadSufrizan from Brunei and also to the generous sponsors.

Finally, a lot of appreciation to our guests and DRM Golf colleagues for accepting our invitation to the 2007 KL F1 Golf Tour. We sincerely apologies for any shortcomings during the tour and will to endeavour to improve in the future.
